The new album is a mixture of traditional sacred hymns like Nearer My God To Thee, Cead Mille Failte Romhat, The Lord is my Shepherd and Be Thou My Vision, and well known folk and pop favourites like Morning Has Broken and Eleanor Rigby. It’s been very good fun to be back in the recording studio.”
The whole process of trying to identify suitable music and get the creative juices flowing and arrange it so that it’s suitable for us is very stimulating. “The last one was 2010, so it’s been a while. Speaking in advance of the release of Alleluia, due out on 7 October, Fr David said they were delighted to have the chance to record a new album. Their next album Harmony released in 2009, was also very successful reaching the top ten in Ireland and top 20 in the UK. Their first album The Priests reached number one in Ireland and number 5 in the UK, scoring a platinum disc in both territories. Music gives people a sense of calm, serenity and hope,” said Fr Eugene O’Hagan. “Today’s world is topsy – turvy and there are still serious threats on the world stage. After three albums, we decided it was time to reduce our travelling and spend more time in our parishes,” he added.Ĭoming from a background of the Troubles, the men have always believed in the healing and peace making power of music. “We were trying to make sure all our duties in the parish were covered. It was “very interesting and pleasant but very demanding and tiring as well”.
It was all very exciting,” Fr David Dalargy recalled. “The albums were released internationally which meant there was a lot of travel, which took us around the world. We went from obscurity to being very well known.”įor the first couple of years the men were very busy, trying to juggle ministry commitments with international concerts, road trips and recording time.
“It was really accidental rather than by design. “It was all a bit of a whirlwind,” said Fr Eugene. THE PRIESTS ALBUM HARMONY PLUS
All three work as parish priests when they are not singing, and that work, plus prayer keeps their feet on the ground. Martin O'Hagan, I found that these three priests are very blessed, not only in talent, but also in doing their best to keep grounded amidst all the fanfare they have been receiving. The Priests have also composed their own piece, called "King of Kings", and have included it on this album as well.
They have chosen a selection of classical favorites like Haydn's "Te Deum", Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus", plus hymns like "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace", and more. Some of this new album was recorded in the legendary Abbey Road Studios and features the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Oratory School Schola, Coro, and The Irish Film Choir. I expect to see this project on the charts very soon. That project sold over 1 million copies in the first seven weeks, and is still in the Billboard Classical Album Chart. Last year's self-titled album broke the Guiness world record for fastest selling debut classical album. The Priests are back! Fathers Martin and Eugene O'Hagan and Father David Delargy have teamed up again to release their second album entitled Harmony, from RCA Victor/Sony Music Entertainment.
